Tri Cities Real Estate Effects from WSU-Tri Cities Branch Campus
New partnerships between Washington State University Tri-Cities and local companies and institutions will be a major contributing factor in continuing to diversify the Tri Cities economy and making it a center for research.
As partnerships between WSU Tri Cities and area companies like Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) Battelle are developed promoting research in Battelle’s Bioproducts, Sciences and Engineering Laboratory, along with Battelle’s investment in the STEM school in Richland, the area will see a growth in the campus’ student body and faculty. This symbiotic relationship will result in demand for both short and long-term housing in the area to meet demand. And, with these business partnerships, we are likely to see a growth in employment for those businesses who are the beneficiaries of the research conducted on campus and in the labs.
Enrollment at WSU Tri Cities for this spring 2009 was approximately 1350, up more than 10 percent from the prior year. Future plans for expansion of the branch campus are shown in the graphic below.
Tri Cities real estate is affected by many different forces beyond the Department of Energy’s funding of cleanup at Hanford. Washington State University Tri Cities is just one of many of these forces to keep in mind when prognosticating where the Tri-City real estate market is going.
